Well, the article is misleading...First it implies that McKinney herself said she was a victim of being in Congress while black. Then it goes on to quote her lawyer as making that statement - not McKinney herself.
I think the situation is very understandable. She walks in every day, probably in a hurry. She's probably not used to being stopped for any reason. Someone grabs her from behind and she reacts on instinct. She apologized later.

The article is only misleading in the fact that attorney's represent clients!
If an attorney is representing Ms McKinney, he is indeed speaking on her behalf and she is culpable for any statements he makes in his official capacity.

I'm sure McKinney feels that way. But it raises the question... If this were a well known white representative who wasn't wearing his badge, would he have been approached and grabbed by the arm security? Who knows - because it's never happened.

Of course it has happened! I guarantee you it has happened. People working in badged environments will tell you this sort of thing happens ALL the time. It happens where I work ALL the time. It just so happens that the Capitol building is under armed guard so it happening there means that you're stopped. Quit defending this, A.J. She didn't have her badge and she walked past security. Police had BETTER stop her.
It just so happens no other member of Congress has hit a police officer. That's why this is in the news.

You're right, they had to stop her.
But I wasn't there and neither were you. So, who knows how forceful the officer was, or how she happened to hit him. I just think it's interesting that she's been in Congress for six terms and no one recognized her? One thing is for sure - her seat isn't going anywhere. Yahoo picked up the story and her district is loving her for this.

And just in case you doubted Ms McKinney's stance in this whole thing, there's this quote fromt he Wash Times:
"This whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female black congresswoman," Mrs. McKinney said during a press conference last week at Howard University. "I deeply regret that this incident occurred, and I am certain that after a full review of the facts, I will be exonerated."
Yes. Female and black. That's why they stopped her...

Apparently she has a new hair style...Maybe that's why they didn't recognize her. According to one radio talk-show host (a conservative one - Neal Boortz out of Atlanta) she looks like a "ghetto-slut."
