Technosailor: How To Change Your Signature on a Blackberry

  • Sean · 2 years ago
Can't you also do it from within the email options on the bberry itself?

    Messages->Options->Email Settings

    Sean
  • R · 1 year ago
The key piece of information here if you don't know what your username is, is to go (on your BB) to email settings, then "Create User Name".
  • Aaron Brazell · 2 years ago
Nope. I tried. That field is uneditable. At least with VZW.
  • maureen · 2 years ago
do you know what the branding is for cingular?
  • Aaron Brazell · 2 years ago
I think just cingular. On Firefox there's a broken image which tells me their branding is screwed up but I'd think this would be the url:

    https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=cingular
  • Zak · 2 years ago
Great tip! I'm going to do this as soon as I get a Blackberry... :/ Oh well...
  • Dave Zatz · 2 years ago
I'm between Berrys at the moment, but on TMobile BIS it's pretty easy -- just log into your web account and start poking around.

  • Charlie · 2 years ago
    It worked! Excellent advice. Thanks.
  • hope · 2 years ago
Thank you so much - I Just switched from using a tmobile blackberry that let me edit it myself to a verizon one that would NOT let me edit it, it was driving me crazy!
  • Noah L-H · 2 years ago
Just discovered the login for Cingular...

    http://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=mycingular

Note it's "mycingular", not "cingular" -- accounts will not work if the branding is not set properly.
  • Yessurr · 2 years ago
Such a great tip... I have been trying to do this for like a week...

    thank you very much!
  • TD · 2 years ago

  • Jeremy · 2 years ago
Great tip - this was driving me crazy as well and I had no idea where to start. Thanks a bunch.
  • Ben · 2 years ago
I just spent an hour reading through the ridiculously poor advice from all the other forums. I wish I had stumbled on yours earlier -- I fixed it in 10 seconds.
  • Angel · 2 years ago
It worked in a Blackberry of Telcel (Mexico)... Thanks for the great information!
  • Aaron Brazell · 2 years ago
Happy to be of service, Angel. :)
  • Brian · 2 years ago
Thank you! I knew this site had to exist somewhere. Annoying that VZW and Blackberry don't provide the link as a matter of course.
  • Avi · 2 years ago
I wish I had stumbled on yours earlier - I spent so many hours searching and reading through the other forums. — I fixed it in no time - Thank you
  • Turano · 2 years ago
    Thanks Cingular Link Worked great!
  • Dan · 2 years ago
So does anyone know what the site is for Verizon Wireless?
  • Chris · 2 years ago
Right On! This is great. Thanks for the tip. It worked perfectly for me. I'm with Verizon.

    https://www.blackberry.com/go/vzw

    Thanks,

  • Alden Reynoso · 2 years ago
Thank you so much for the tip! I have been trying for months to figure out how to remove the auto signature. I even called Verizon when I first got the device. The rep told me it could not be done!
  • Krystal · 2 years ago
    Hi

This was great advice as I also did not need the world to know that I can be reached all the time.

I am a T-mobile customer The signature feature cannot be changed from the device itself, it comes up with an error message.

So for T-MOBILE customers, all you need to do is log into your mytmobile account and at the bottom of the page under messaging, there is Blackberry internet email, click setup internet email and you'll be able to change the signature.
  • Heather · 2 years ago
It didn't work for me. I have AT&T (Cingular) and can't get the BIS site to work. Also don't have Redirector Settings as it is my personal Blackberry. Don't have the option under "Email Settings" either. What's worse is that this auto Blackberry signature just appeared recently - I believe it was during the conversion to AT&T. *sigh* I hate this stupid signature. AT&T was no help.
  • Brian W Goodyear · 2 years ago
Works for Telus ...just replace vzw with telus
  • Pete · 2 years ago
It doesn't work for the verizon 8830, or am i missing something? I go to the web page, but I don't have any account information. If I try to set up a new account, after filling in the phone information it tells me that I cannot use the site, that I have to do it through the blackberry.
  • Chris · 2 years ago
Hi Pete, your question is beyond the scope of this thread. You'll likely have to call the Verizon support line for help getting your account set properly. I had to do the same thing. I have been a Vzw customer for years, and when I bought by BlackBerry (8830) the sales rep apparently didn't update my account for the BB plan.

The call took 10 minutes of my time, and the account was active on the BB site (link above) within 5 minutes of the call.

Once your account is set, you'll be able to log in and make the changes. You can add email accounts and specify a different signature for each.
  • nev · 2 years ago
I just got off the phone with verizon. They had absolutly no idea what to do and conferenced blackberry tech support. Blackberry made an account on blackberry.com for me (since verizon for some reason blocks the ability of doing so) From there it was a piece of cake.
  • Dennis · 2 years ago
    Aaron-

I have an BB 8830 with VZW. I tried to do this (I SO thought that I was on the right trail), but I cannot log in online. I tried to create an account, but it said "Use the blackberry Internet Service" or something to that degree. So, now what? GREAT equipment, this is a bit odd to me why this is so hard though...

Let me know thoughts - thanks!

    Dennis
  • Dan · 2 years ago
    Aaron,

I too have an 8830 from vzw. the trick is to create a username/password. You will be 'warned' that you now have secure access directly from your phone, and that if you continue, you will have to manually log in. I selected ok, created a username and password. I was then prompted to confirm the passwords for my ISP email accounts.

When that was all complete, I was able to log into the web site from my computer. You can change signatures by selecting the 'edit' option for each email account.

    hope this helps
  • Wes · 2 years ago
This is hell! I can't do it! I clicked on the VZW link above and it worked, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN didn't work again for that, or my cingular link. It is a blackberry page that says "the site can't be accessed in this manner".

Like so many people...I refuse to be a commerical for any telcom company (the devil). Can someone please help me? It's like it cached me somehow, and won't let me get in.

I was using firefox but IE did the same thing.
  • Luis · 2 years ago
Thank you so much for this info! I've been searching for months and now I have my answer.
  • Cathy · 1 year ago
I have the Blackberry 8830. I had already created an account on the www.verizonwireless.com page. When I clicked the link given above, I had to use the login and password created on the Verizon website. It let me in and showed me my blackberry.net account and my cox.net account. I was able to edit the signatures for both.
Luckily I found this site on my first attempt at a search on how to do this.
    Thanks for making this easy!!
  • Patrick · 1 year ago
I am not able to get this to work...

When I went to http://bis.na.blackberry.com/html/ for my Blackberry Curve for AT&T to create a service account. I typed in my pin and IMEI number, and I get this message. "Your account is not accessible via HTML browser. Please use your device to access BlackBerry Internet Service."

And when I try to go there on my blackberry, I get the message... "The site cannot be accessed in this manner. Please use the URL or link provided to you by your service provider."

And of course, if I use the icon link provided by AT&T to get on the whatever site it is, I don't have the option to change the signature (ie. you can read the entry but not change it).

If anyone has any brilliant idea to change/remove the annoying signature of "sent via Blackberry by AT&T"... I would even be happy to take you out to lunch! Please help! (Otherwise, I might have to append a comment like "AT&T sucks" to precede that message.)

All BIS (usa) for different carriers can be found at the bottom of this page: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/software/i...
  • JoAnn Sampson · 1 year ago
I just got my bberry and didn't realize it was leaving that message when I wrote. I am not quite sure I understand what to do. I got your directions. If I use gmail, what would I replace the vzw with? Would that cause the entire statement to not print? Hope you have patience for me--I am trying and you are rated well :-) So, can you help me. Do I log into https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw on the computer or using the bberry? I am using the Pearl. I really would appreciate your help. Thanks!
  • Kbizlle · 1 year ago
If you have Verizon, you will have to created a username for the blackberry on the device (in email settings), and then use that to login to the BIS website. Keep in mind that this is not the blackberry.net email address you created, it is the account that controls all of your push email. After you do this you will be able to log in and erase the signature
  • EthanK · 1 year ago
I did not create a verizon or blackberry account for my phone. I am using existing accounts. What is this user name that they demand?

I am having the exact same problem that Patrick (#34) describes, and I have found no way of fixing it. Has anyone else figured this issue out? Please help...
  • Nick · 1 year ago
Easy steps to change the signature for your 8830 on Verizon Wireless:

    1. Go to http://bis.na.blackberry.com/html/ from your 8830's Internet browser
    2. Choose 'Create User Name'
    3. Read the notification and accept
    4. Enter the username and password of your choice, then save
    5. If you've already configured an email account, you will be prompted to re-validate your credentials for this email account
    6. Once complete, go to http://bis.na.blackberry.com/html/ on your computer's web browser (not on the 8830) then log in with the username and password you just created from your 8830
    7. Either choose to edit the options for your configured email account or add a new account and you will be able to change the signature.

Pls what's the site for vodafone
  • chuk · 1 year ago
Worked great thank you very much this has been driving me nuts.
  • Dan · 1 year ago
Still no solution for the AT&T 8300 Curve.
  • Dan · 1 year ago
    Found it.

For AT&T Blackberry Curve, use your blackberry browser and go to http://www.att.com/blackberrystart and setup an account. Login there and make your changes to your signature.
  • Tim · 1 year ago
Thanks so much for some of the other comments. Finding the username and getting it set up on vzw was certainly not intuitive like everything else seems to be on my new BB. Thanks.
  • The Solution for AT&T Curv · 1 year ago
Just to add to what Dan said. For AT&T Curve users, go to the link http://www.att.com/blackberrystart and select the link to log into BIS (should be towards the end of the page). Once you get into the site go to Service -> Email Accounts. Scroll down and select Services and Settings. From there you can set up a username and password. Once this is done log onto the BIS link for AT&T on your PC, not your BBerry and change from there.
  • Rachel · 1 year ago
Thank you very much for this info -- that was driving me crazy!
  • Will · 1 year ago
None of the above worked for my AT&T Curve; could log into my BIS site, but the autosignature field was still not editable. So.....

Called AT&T, asked for Email and Messaging, and a very nice technician simply had to log into my BIS for me (he will reset yr password if you don't want to disclose it) and was able to change the signature in seconds.

No idea why he could edit the field and not me, but hey, no more silly "Sent via Blackberry by AT&T"!!!!!!
  • Mona · 1 year ago
You can do it on the BB itself. Go to the menu when you are on your email page - go to options - then go to email settings - change the "no' under use auto signature to "yes" and it will allow you to write whatever you want.
  • Aaron Brazell · 1 year ago
Mona that's only relevant if you're on a BES server.
  • Tim · 1 year ago
I'm glad I found this. I got my bb configured to my exchange server, and didn't want to advertise whenever I had to reply to a work email after hours.
  • Gordon · 1 year ago
On sprint and an 8830, every time I can get into the Email settings, (I already have accounts set up), and I hit edit, scroll down to the signature setting, and I can't change it. Clicking the "?" next to the Signature line brings me a 404 error.

All attempts to log onto the pages with my PC have brought me to error pages.

What gives? Anyone gotten this to work on Sprint lately?
  • Gordon · 1 year ago
Just got it. Works fine. I was accessing the page through Safari, which apparently, BIS isn't too fond of.

    Firefox works fine though.
  • Ryan Buckner · 1 year ago
I have a Verizon Blackberry and i had the same problem as some other people -- no account and when i try to make one on the webpage it says "Use your BLackberry wireless device. You cannot use this page." or something similar.

So i went into my Blackberry > Email Set-Up > Settings > Create new account..

Then i used those credentials to login to the website and it worked fine. No phonecall involved (because even 10 mins of being on a call witha call center is painful)

3 mailboxes with all dif signatures!
    Cheers!

I am beginning my business as a wedding consultant and I did not want Verizon's personal message on there for all of my clients to see! Thank you for the great advice! It worked!!

Just changed my signatures on Sprint. Very easy once you know where to go! Go to www.sprint.blackberry.com. Log in. Then click edit for your email address and change the signature. Two seconds...thanks!!
  • ddnyc · 1 year ago
I have the BB Curve for ATT and i just did it! Log onto the BIS site on your BB and then create a user name and password... THEN on a computer... go to www.att.com/blackberrystart and log in, then you will be able to customize the signature!!! Note that if you are using a Mac you cannot use safari - i used netscape and it worked.. THANKS to everyone!

Thank you...thank you...thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was driving me crazy.

I just tried editing my Verizon stamp and I can get to where it's listed, but I'm unable to make any changes. When I try and delete the text I end up going back one page and if I click on the "?" link I get a 404 error.

    Am I missing something?
  • Ian Campbell · 1 year ago
The verizon link says I must use BIS to create an account when I enter my PIN and ESN, thus I cannot use the website to modify settings. I don\'t believe I have this application on my devise. Has anyone else encountered this?
  • daviddrys · 1 year ago
I know this is off topic, but since this was the best advice for changing the signature I figure I would ask.

Has anyone figured out how to make the internal GPS work on the 8830? I would like to use Google Maps and not have to buy a GPS puck or pay for Verizon\'s overpriced nav. I know the 8830 has a built in GPS and VZ shuts it down before the customers get them, has anyone figured out how to turn it back on? I am been on the crackberry pages and they have not made any progress on their own or after talking to the VZ reps. Any help would be outstanding.......

    Link to various services setup.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/blackberry...

I've had problems opening the pages on IE7 but not on IE6
Error (The site cannot be accessed in this manner. Please use the URL or link provided to you by your service provider.)

I've used firefox portable and it works from that.
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_p...
(download file, run, creates a folder and you can firefox from there - doesn't install on local machine - can delete files once done or save onto a USB drive and take with you. Good for citrix or terminal server environments)
  • Brian · 1 year ago
None of this worked for me. I have the Verizon 8830, which I just purchased 3 weeks ago. I tried changing the signature using E-mail settings on the device, as well as firefox portable, Apple Safari and IE6 at the url listed above and I keep getting the message "Your account is not accessable via HTML browser. Please use your device to access Blackberry internet service." I've also tried all of these things on both my desktop and laptop (two separate computers) and still no luck. I must be unlucky in that they've sewn up every hole that you guys exposed to them. There's got to be a way for me, but I'm glad all of you have been successful.
  • ghross · 1 year ago
Thanks for the instructions to remove the signature "sent from my verizon blackberry." I had some problems at first because I had not first created a user name.
  • ghross · 1 year ago
Hey Brian I was having the same problem. Even though you are sending and receiving emails, you probably need to create a user name. When I went into my phone create email settings I clicked edit my email addresses and noticed the user name was blank. Created one and then was able to log in to the https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw link without getting the “Your account is not accessable via HTML browser. Please use your device to access Blackberry internet service.”
  • Ian Campbell · 1 year ago
    Thanks this worked
  • Rob O · 1 year ago
Same problem as 61 above (Ben B) -- I just got the Verizon Curve and can get to the link, which give me the same screen as the e-mail options link, I see a ? mark highlighted in blue above the Verizon signature, but I can't edit the text in any way. Has anyone figured this out yet?

I also am accessing work through OMA and can't get a signature there either. Very frustrating. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
  • Ryan Mac · 1 year ago
Hey Rob O, I have the same phone through Verizon and am experiencing the same problem. When I browse to https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw from my BB, I get the same exact options as the built in, "Email Options".

I wonder if VZW limited yet another feature on one of their phones?
  • Rob O · 1 year ago
I don't know. A friend of mine sent me some info to edit the auto signature in options, i.e. enable it, but the option is not listed there. As lame as it sounds, I highlighted my signature block from my office e-mail, copied it and I just hit paste on buisness e-mails when I want it there.
  • Tray · 1 year ago
You are not able to change your signature from your blackberry, as there is no longer an option to do so. You also cannot change it from Desktop manager (as BB's website says you can).

For non enterprise server sprint users, goto: www.sprint.blackberry.com. You will see the same interface as if you were going to the email setup located on your blackberry. Select edit next to the email account you wish to change and change the signature.

The Blackberry Internet service addresses have changed a bit. I suggest you contact your service provider.
  • Paul from Philadelphia · 1 year ago
    Aaron your the Man!!

Today I decided to do research on how to remove this stupid signature from my new blackberry. I spent about 10 minutes on the unit and realized, like you did, that it is etched in stone and can't be edited from the unit. I then turned to google, was directed to your board and I'm going say maybe in 4 minutes I had my signature changed, thanks to You.

Mine is a Nextel unit and https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=nextel was the Link.

    Thanks again Man!

    Paul
  • Greg · 1 year ago
Alright, I'm an idiot. I have no idea what my username or password is. Where can I get that info?

Looking forward to getting rid of that sig!

    Thanks
  • Sach · 1 year ago
I just acquired a BB Curve 8330 with Sprint service. I used your link except changed it to "=sprint". It took me right to the BB Internet Service page, from where I could log in and change my signature for the standard msg. to my contact info. Just to clarify for others, you have to click on the Edit button on the right side to make the changes.

Thank you for your help! It was very informative and to the point.
    Regards,
    Sach
  • Jim Lang · 1 year ago
Okay, all. One thing that may be missing here is this: You MUST set up a Blackberry email account before using the link. Many folks will do this as a matter of course. The phone will warn you that you'll ALWAYS have to enter passwords from then on out, but that's not such a chore, I think. Under Email Settings -> Email Accounts. It's a little obscure, but once it's done, you can change the dratted sig.

    Jim.
  • Rob O. · 1 year ago
For Verizon and many other carriers, detailed directions that work as to how to do this are at http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-remove-sent....

What Jim says is correct, you need to set up a user name on the device and a password, then log in from the website and edit your signatures there. You cannot edit them from the BB itself.

    Check out the link.

    Hi everyone

I followed all the advice above, for the at&t blackberry; I created a username and password through the device (this isn't easy to find, you need to go to bis.na.blackberry.com through the device's browser). I still found that I could not log in from a normal PC (I got an error saying "this site cannot be accessed in this way). However, I was able to log in fine when I cleared all cache and cookies from my desktop browser (in Firefox, Tools > Clear Private Data). The site leaves some incorrect information when you try to log in without setting up the account, and this persists after you've set it up.
  • freddyb · 1 year ago
I was able to change the signature on the AT&T blackberry. It also can be changed on the BB desktop manager.

Go to Message, options, email settings.

This message is specifically for Carol cuz she tipped me off on how to change the signature on my Sprint BlackBerry, but it's also for you, Aaron. Thanks SO much on telling me how to do this! I chatted with a Sprint representative online and they weren't able to tell me how to fix this. I am so grateful that you were able to help me out!

There is an easier url. www.blackberry.com/go/vzw I work for verizon and there is a web portal for all service providers that will allow you to edit the information from the url you gave. you can either use the email settings on the phone or use the respetive page to make those changes. when you guys set up your username and password please write it down somewhere. i am so tired of people not knowing thier login info.
  • Aaron Brazell · 1 year ago
Welcome to tech support Joseph. I'm tired of Verizon jacking up my
Blackberry 8830 with no GPS. Now we're even. ;-)
  • Joseph Ramirez · 1 year ago
Your gps doesn't work or you don't want to use VZnav? If you even need anything let me know. I just happened across this site but looks good. There is a software update from blackberry from your phone depending on when you got it. There have actually been two. You can get the updated os from the blackberry website and use the desktop manager to install it. "We never stop working for you."
  • Aaron Brazell · 1 year ago
I don't want to get shook down by Verizon for more money when I'm already
paying $180/mo for data and voice on different phones. I want the GPS that
is built in by RIM and that is available when buying the phone from your
    competitors.

Read one of my latest post on Walled Gardens. VZW is a walled garden. Let my
GPS go. I want to use Google Maps, not VZNav.
  • Joseph Ramirez · 1 year ago
I guess that 's the price we pay to be on America's most reliable. i know we're not perfect, but we really are trying. I am anyway.
  • Aaron Brazell · 1 year ago
This is an advertising free zone unless VZW is paying. ;-) Don't give me
slogans. Show me you care. Pull strings and unlock my Blackberry. I respect
your willingness to have dialogue. I don't want to hear petty slogans
    though. I want results.
  • Joseph Ramirez · 1 year ago
I know we can unlock the 8830 to be used with sims from other carriers. I'm not sure if that also unlocks the gps services. I will see what I can find at work tomorrow. I'll post what I find when I get off work. Thank you for your appreciation of my banter. I'll be sure to keep my slogans to the signature on my blackberry. ;-P
  • Mark 'Rizzn' Hopkins · 1 year ago
Wow, Joseph, are you serious? Let's flip it around for you... I sell you a car, and to get a good deal on the price, you're restricted to only buy gas at Qwik-E-Marts, and you can't shift higher than second gear. You call me up to complain about the shifting problem, and I tell you "well, that's the price you pay for having the convenience of buying gas at Qwik-E-Marts, they're everywhere. "

It's an intentionally crippled product, and having a phone that works to make a phone call shouldn't be a reward, that should be a given.
  • Aaron Brazell · 1 year ago
Joseph, feel free to contact me at aaron@technosailor.com if you think I have options. Open to hearing them.

Had to call up VZW to reset my user name and pswd. Didn't seem to need to set up a blackberry email account. Salesperson was friendly and helpful. However, i did have to give her my login info/pswd to my email accounts in order to verify. Glad i'm no longer advertising against my will! thanks!

I appreciate the info, because your answer was short and simple versus all the BB support docs I looked at never actually said WHAT TO DO! I've never had a BB before and, quite frankly, my boss doesn't need to know I might not have been at my home office when I reploy to her emails! Thanks big time for your help.

I used the info you provided to get the signature off of my old bb. I just received a new one (insurance, charger port busted) and tried the same thing again at https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw. It isn't working this time though. Both of my signature boxes are blank online, but it still shows up in my emails. Any suggestions? Thanks!
